Role & responsibilities A. Backup Administration Configure, manage, and monitor backup jobs for physical and virtual servers. Manage NetBackup policies, storage units, schedules, and retention levels. Maintain and update NetBackup catalogs and image databases. Ensure backup jobs are optimized for SAN storage architecture. B. Storage Administration Storage Provisioning & Management o Create, expand, and delete LUNs/volumes. o Allocate storage to servers, VMware clusters, and backup appliances. o Manage zoning and masking in Fibre Channel/iSCSI environments. Performance Optimization o Monitor and forecast capacity requirements for optimal performance and growth. o Monitor storage performance metrics and optimize IOPS, throughput, and latency. o Implement tiering and caching strategies for workload efficiency. Replication & DR Readiness o Configure and monitor replication (Sync/Async) for disaster recovery. o Perform failover and failback testing of storage arrays. Troubleshooting & Incident Response o Resolve storage connectivity issues between hosts and SAN. o Analyze and fix disk failures, controller issues, or firmware bugs. Firmware & Software Upgrades o Plan and execute Dell SAN firmware upgrades with minimal service disruption. o Validate compatibility with connected servers, HBAs, and switches. Integration with Backup Systems o Coordinate with backup teams to optimize storage for NetBackup, Veeam, or other solutions. o Manage snapshot schedules and cloning for backup/recovery purposes. Documentation & Compliance o Maintain SAN topology diagrams, LUN allocation records, and configuration documentation. o Ensure storage configurations meet compliance/security requirements. o Ensure backups meet regulatory compliance (e.g., data retention, encryption). o Maintain accurate documentation for backup architecture, policies, and recovery procedures.
